Health Promotion

We really thought that in 2021-22 we would be back undertaking peer workshops and education full-time for the first time since March 2020.

As it happened, many of our health service partners were understandably cautious about opening back up fully, and we also had new variants of the coronavirus impacting not only on our access to service partners and the community but also on our own services.

We still managed to get both our peer workshops and our training sessions for workers up and running again. Often our face-to-face meetings had limits to how many people could be in the room, but it felt good to be back with the community.

It’s Your Right – Live Free of Hep C - Co-design and Co-production

The Burnet Institute’s Eliminating Hep C (EC Australia) project has been working with peer organisations across the country to codesign and deliver the “It’s Your Right” campaign aimed at encouraging people to get tested and treated for hepatitis C. HRVic have been working to roll out the Victorian arm of the project which has had Caro and Brit teamed up with some fantastic peers from within the community out and about on the streets. They have been working alongside Sally Watkinson and Inga Tribe who are both very experienced Integrated Hepatitis C nurses. Together they formed a passionate team of people who all worked together with the common goal of bringing people in to be tested, and if necessary, treated for hep C.

This year we said goodbye to a much-loved team member, Hunter Morgan and we welcomed two new team members into the HRVic family. Caro Weidner who had been working with us for some time on hep C peer navigation and NSP, has taken on the role of community peer educator and Brit Chapman has filled the workforce development role within the team.
